Key potential indicators
Forget résumés – new-style recruitment is based on future potential rather than past performance. Interactive online games, video screening, artifificial intelligence and robots are among the new tools driving this trend. Here are some examples of Revelian’s Cognify tests (revelian.com) for assessing a jobseeker’s potential. Three games test problem-solving or “fluid reasoning”, such as the ability to solve problems without prior knowledge: Short Cuts (a blue marble is moved to an area using as few moves as possible); Gridlock (puzzle pieces are fitted into a grid under time pressure); and Resemble (an image on the left is mentally rotated then replicated on the right). “Numerical reasoning” measures how well the candidate understands quantitative and numerical concepts. There are two games: Numbubbles, in which the candidate pops bubbles containing an equation that equals a target number; and Tally Up, where they choose which group of tokens has the highest value. “Processing speed” refers to the ability to perform cognitive tasks quickly and retain the lesson. In the game Colour Pop, the candidate must ignore distractions to select correct tiles. “Verbal knowledge” assesses language skills, especially spelling and grammar. In the game Proof It!, errors in spelling and punctuation are identified.
