Girls’ weekend
New York-based designer Tory Burch shares her fashion essentials for a chic, fuss-free trip.
Do you roll or fold? My parents taught me to wrap my clothes in tissue paper to prevent wrinkles but lately I’ve been trying the KonMari Method [by Marie Kondo]. I had no idea how much I could fit into my suitcase – it’s a game changer.
Do you unpack at the hotel or live out of your suitcase?
I always unpack, even if it’s just a quick trip. No matter how good you are at folding, clothes crease. The earlier things are hung up, the better.
What do you wear for long flights? I love the Tech Ponte pants from my Tory Sport line. We designed them with travel in mind so they have just the right amount of stretch. I pair them with a Loewe striped cable-knit sweater, a cashmere wrap and a foldable pair of flats.
What are your nonnegotiables? Dr. Bronner’s Lavender Organic Hand Sanitizer comes everywhere with me. I’m an avid reader so I load my iPad up with a few books before a long flight. Plus I always tie a red ribbon around my suitcase for good luck. It’s one of those funny family traditions.
Are you loyal to a particular colour scheme? I love colour but I tend to focus more on versatility. Pieces that are uncomplicated and easy to layer give you more mileage.
Are you influenced by your destination when packing? Climate is the biggest factor. Easy dresses, caftans and slides are my go-tos, unless I’m heading to the mountains. Then my suitcase is full of soft sweaters. One constant is activewear – even when I’m travelling I try to make time for exercise.
