Qantas

FROM THE CEO

- Alan Joyce CEO, Qantas

After being closed for more than 600 days, Australia’s international borders are finally set to reopen this month. This is a day everyone at Qantas has been waiting for. After doing it tough these past two years, it’s an exciting time for our people, who can’t wait to get back to doing what they do best – taking care of our customers on the ground and in the air. A lot of work has been happening behind the scenes to make sure the travel experience is as smooth as possible when flights resume. And there are a few steps customers and Frequent Flyers need to take so they’re ready to fly too. First is dusting off the passport and checking the expiry date. The federal government has flagged that more than 1.3 million Australian passports have expired since borders closed and with the expected high number of renewals, it’s a good idea to beat the rush. Customers will also need to download the IATA Travel Pass app onto their phone, which will store proof of vaccination and pre-departure COVID-19 test results. While there may be a few more steps required for international travel now, the Qantas team is here to help along the way.

What hasn’t changed is our commitment to providing a premium service, whether it’s sampling Neil Perry’s latest lounge or inflight menus or settling in to watch a blockbuster movie or binge on a TV series (though, after months of lockdown, watching the view out the window will probably be a popular way to spend the time). And because it’s been such a long time between trips, we’ve made 50 per cent more Reward Seats available on overseas flights. It’s our way of saying thank you to our loyal Frequent Flyers, who’ll have more opportunities to use the points they’ve stockpiled over the past 18 months on a flight to London, Tokyo or Los Angeles. With so many families and friends separated, we’re expecting a few scenes reminiscent of Love Actually when those first flights arrive.

There’s a lot to look forward to this summer and whether you’re staying close to home or heading across the world, thanks for choosing Qantas.
