In Hustle, Adam Sandler stars as a has-been basketball scout, Stanley Beren, who believes that he’s discovered greatness when he stumbles on a genius player (real-life basketballer Juancho Hernangómez, above with Sandler) goofing around for fun in Spain. Determined to bring him back to the United States to play, Beren must first convince his team and the NBA that this diamond in the rough is worth the expense. The movie also stars Queen Latifah and Robert Duvall. Streaming on Netflix from 8 June.

Why settle for ordinary noisecancelling earphones when you can have a pair with an in-built air purifier? We know – it’s a lot. But to fill a void we didn’t know existed, Dyson (dyson.com.au) is set to deliver crystal-clear sound with clean air in one Matrix-esque, visor-like device, the Zone, to be worn over the head. The last time we saw gloves of this grandeur they were on the arms of royalty. Thankfully, you don’t need to have blue blood to try the new opera glove trend.

Prada does superfine wool ones (above, $1430; prada.com) in this pink-and-ochre jacquard pattern. Emilia Wickstead’s latest collection matches butteryellow dresses to an over-theelbow pair. And Balenciaga’s version in black fleece is as well-suited to a performance of Carmen as it is a Kardashian.

6 Home

Flip the bring-the-outdoors-in design approach on its head with a side table created for the outdoors. This Janua Stomp table (above, $1270; top3.com. au), cut from the robinia (acacia) tree, benefits from being left exposed to the elements, shifting in tone from a rich brown to a silvery hue over time. Just the thing for resting your mulled wine and marshmallows on.

If the first Toy Story, released in 1995, had you thinking that alpha-male astronaut action figure Buzz Lightyear (above) began his life in a toy factory, think again. Turns out that before he was an action figure Buzz was a real-life space captain who defended the world against sinister alien life forms on other planets. Starring the voice of Captain America himself, Chris Evans, as Buzz, and featuring the vocal talents of Keke Palmer and Taika Waititi, it powers into cinemas on 16 June.

The third instalment of the Chameleon series, Wild Boys, began earlier this year, this time focusing on the true story of two half-starved young men who stumbled into the small Canadian town of Vernon in 2003, claiming they’d been raised in the wilderness, cut off from modern civilisation. They were taken in and looked after by the local community. But as this season reveals – using interviews with townsfolk to explore the art of the con – things didn’t end well.
