BEFORE YOU GO HOME
Step back in time
The museum run by the Broome Historical Society (broomemuseum.org.au) will transport you to the town’s early pearling days. Don’t miss the diving suits and handoperated pumps that delivered precious oxygen to divers.
See the constellations
Astro Tours (astrotours. net) makes the most of the Kimberley’s clear night skies with stargazing shows 20 minutes’ drive from the heart of Broome. From April to October.
Hoon in a hovercraft
As if flying around creeks and tidal flats isn’t already a blast, the Broome Hovercraft (broomehovercraft.com. au) tour also gets you up close with fossilised dinosaur footprints.
Pick up a pearl
Dampier Terrace, in Broome’s Chinatown, is the place to purchase the town’s most famous export. There are plenty of jewellers to choose from, plus two historic pearl luggers on display.
Take a dip
Cable Beach is the town’s iconic strip of sand. Saddle up for a sunset camel tour (visitbroome. com.au) or soak up the view with a drink in hand at Cable Beach Club (cablebeachclub.com).
