of Byron (hotel.qantas. com.au/elements), a luxury eco resort in Byron Bay, northern NSW, that’s relaunching in October with a bonus for the grown-ups: a 25-metre adults-only heated pool with swimup bar. The relaunch – 20 months after the resort opened on a 20-hectare beachfront site – also includes 99 new villas (there are currently 94) and, by the end of the year, a solar-powered twocarriage train that links the resort with the Byron Bay township three kilometres away.
(mitchelton.com.au) in the Goulburn Valley, a 90-minute drive north of Melbourne, is famous to Victorians of a certain era for its landmark 1973 Robin Boyd-designed cellar door featuring a 55-metre-high viewing tower. Today, a new generation is discovering Mitchelton through its outdoor concerts, underground Halloween parties and, soon, a new 58-room boutique hotel and day spa that is expected to open in late spring.
