The Breadwinner

Based on Deborah Ellis’ bestseller, this animated film tells the story of 12-year-old Parvana, growing up under the Taliban in Afghanistan. When her father is unjustly arrested, Parvana decides to cut her hair and dress as a boy in order to work and provide for her family. With her best friend Shauzia by her side, she risks discovery to try to learn whether her father is still alive. This is a tale of female empowerment in the face of oppression and a celebration of the history, culture and beauty of Afghanistan.
