Through­out the 20th cen­tury, the de­sign un­der­went a num­ber of in­no­va­tions, in­clud­ing the use of re­place­able and re­fill­able ink car­tridges, while ma­te­ri­als used range from plas­tic, metal and wood. To­day, foun­tain pens have un­der­gone a resur­gence as peo­ple re­dis­cover their clas­sic beauty – with sales in­creas­ing, par­tic­u­larly in the pres­tige cat­e­gory.
