A team of Aus­tralian and over­seas sci­en­tists has dis­cov­ered the old­est in­tact bi­o­log­i­cal colours on Earth. The 1.1-bil­lion-year-old bright pink pig­ments were found in an­cient rocks deep be­low the Sa­hara Desert, mak­ing them more than 500 mil­lion years older than pre­vi­ous pig­ment dis­cov­er­ies.
