Rising From the Ashes

‘The Search for Life on Kangaroo Island’ (November) brings to mind the phoenix. This phoenix, however, bears no resemblance to the mythological one. It has soft brown fur and a leathery nose instead of feathers. Like the phoenix of legend, Kangaroo Island’s koalas will rise from the ashes and continue to beat in our hearts because too many people refuse to let them die. MICHAEL WOUTERS
