Iranian-born Pirooz Jafari migrated to Australia more than two decades ago as an ambitious photographer. But his experience of witnessing violations of human rights throughout his childhood and adolescence ignited a passion in him to study law.
Since graduating as a lawyer in 2003, he has worked in various community-based organisations as a human rights advocate, which gave him plenty of ammunition to weave through his own memories for his debut novel, Forty Nights.
