Get to know Charlie, a sweet, scruffy dog who lives with writer and stylist Jessica Bellef

Real Living (Australia) - - CONTENTS -

Charlie is a rugged little rascal who’s seen a lot of adventure in his short lifetime. Now, this sweet boy has found a home right where he truly belongs. Where did you meet Charlie?

At an animal shelter in Western Sydney. He’d been through a few homes before being found on the street and taken there. He was a nervous wreck when we first met him. Luckily he’s chilled out since.

What breed is Charlie, and why did you choose him?

He’s a patchwork of breeds. Terrier mixed with kelpie and dressed as a German Shepherd. We wanted a cheeky dog who’d help us take life less seriously. Charlie was the perfect match.

Is Charlie’s temperament a little rough like his exterior?

Not at all. Charlie is funny, curious and kind, and he can laugh! When we’re playing, this little guy likes to have a good giggle.

Could you describe a day in the life of Charlie?

He spends his day lounging in the sun, yelling out howdy to the neighbour’s dog occasionally. In the evening he’ll lap-hop between Beau and me.

Has Charlie inspired your work at Temple & Webster?

He has been in the spotlight on a few photo shoots. Beyond that, his untidy and charismatic look reminds me to keep my styling work a bit rough and undone.

What would he represent as an interior style?

Vintage style. Pre-loved, with all the knocks of a past life. Just like him.

A kind soul “His coat may be rough and unruly, but underneath he’s a sweet creature with a real sensitive side,” Jessica says. Pet nameCharlie’s full moniker is Charles Barkley. He was named after an American basketballer. Side by sideIn the afternoon Charlie and Jessica like to go for walks together along the jetty.
