Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, David Garibaldi took up drums at the age of 10. After a stint in the 724th US Air Force band, in 1969 he returned to the Bay Area where he became a member of pioneering, horn-heavy funkateers Tower Of Power.

During the decade David spent with Tower Of Power, he became one of the most influential drummers of his generation. Combining linear and harmonic elements to create tight 16th-note patterns, Garibaldi, with bassist Rocco Prestia, created some of the most memorable grooves ever. For precision, tightness, sophistication and originality of groove, Tower Of Power were unrivalled.

In the late ’70s, David became an LA session musician, playing with Natalie Cole, Jermaine Jackson, Boz Scaggs, The Yellowjackets, Gino Vanelli and his own fusion outfit, Wishful Thinking. Check out: Tower Of Power ‘What Is Hip?’
