From small jazz gigs to drum company co-owner…

Rhythm - - WELCOME! - Stuart Williams, Editor stuart.williams@futurenet.com Twitter @RhythmMagazine Facebook /RhythmMagazine

Hello! When I first started playing the drums as a teenager in the mid-90s, I was instructed by my first teacher to do two things: buy a copy of the Guildhall Grades 1-4 book, and pick up a copy of Rhythm. I did both, and I’ve been a reader of the mag ever since. Back then, it gave me my first window into a world that’s obsessed me ever since. So, after reading the magazine for well over two decades, and contributing to it for the last 10 years, I couldn’t be more excited to pull up a throne for my first issue as Editor.

This month we have the wonderful Ian Matthews on the cover. He’s best known as the drummer of Kasabian and he’s also a key ingredient in the British Drum Company’s continued success and innovation. Read all about Ian’s approach to playing, and what he’s been up to with BDC from page 32! Elsewhere we have interviews with drumming/singing/keyboard sensation Josh Dion, Parkway Drive’s Ben Gordon, Lamb Of God’s Chris Adler and groove master Chris ‘Daddy’ Dave. As always there are expert gear reviews – this month featuring new stuff from Alesis, Roland, Paiste, Sabian and more – and a packed tuition section, including playalongs for Don Broco and The Winstons. Enjoy!
