How To Perform well Under Pressure

Rhythm - - INTERVIEW -

What psychological approach do you take when it comes to playing bigger gigs?

“It’s better to play relaxed, feeling like you’re just in your basement, that’s when you play your best, but it’s pretty hard not to get affected when there are 50,000 people in front of you. The best thing is don’t take yourself too seriously. If you make a mistake, don’t worry about it. I went through a stage of telling myself, ‘I’m going to be perfect this show, I’m going to be amazing,’ and it was actually detrimental because I don’t really work as well when I put too much pressure on myself. You’ve got to keep it light and fun and enjoy it more. You have expectations and then if you do make a human mistake, you ruminate over it and the next time you make the mistake worse. The best way is not to take yourself too seriously and don’t beat yourself up if you make a mistake.”
