We first featured Sweden’s One O One drums back in issue 275 of Rhythm. At the time we described their lightweight, moistureresistant composite wood fibre Black Diamond snare as an “impressive debut”. Proving they’re no one-hit wonder, here are three new additions to the One O One canon.
The 14''x5 ½'' Natural Diamond snare features a 2.5mm shell (5mm at the integrated reinforcement rings) constructed from One O One’s ‘top secret’ compressed wood fibre recipe. The untreated shell allows the unique markings of composite material to shine through while the sound should be pure and resonant. On the larger side, the 14''x8'' Black Diamond features the same 2.5mm shell as the Natural Diamond but comes finished in black lacquer with bling-y gold hardware, including tube lugs.
The headline story here, however, is the new 14''x6'' SupraNolic Series, featuring what One O One describe as “probably the world’s thinnest wood fibre snare”. We’d be inclined to believe the hype – this wafer-thin drum comes in at only 1.5mm, with 5mm reinforcing rings. We can’t wait to play it.
All drums are decked with Evans heads and DW’s Mag strainer, plus 45-degree bearing edges, rounded on the batterside. Custom hardware and finish options are also available. We’ll be testing all three drums soon. Stay tuned for our verdict!
