The Guns N’Roses guitarist is on top (hat) form
This, Slash’s fourth solo outing, marks his third album proper with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. Brent Fitz is again the man behind the kit on a record that those baying for new GN’R material would be wise to listen to. In fact, the opening combo of ‘The Call of the Wild’ and ‘Serve You Right’ could slip nicely onto AppetiteForDestruction with few grumbles. Fitz busting out the cowbell on the latter track is a definite highlight.
But LivingTheDream runs the full gamut of the top hatted-one’s career; ‘Mind Your Manners’ sounds like a classic cut from his Snakepit records, while the dubiouslytitled ‘Lost Inside The Girl’ (featuring lush ride work from Fitz) would have been a snug fit for the late-Scott Weiland to wrap his vocals around on Velvet Revolver’s Libertad.
Fitz is rock solid throughout; a case of a drummer who is locked in as tight as a gnat’s unmentionables with those around him, particularly bassist Todd Kearns. For our money, Fitz would have been an excellent shout for the GN’R reunion when it became apparent that Steven Adler and Matt Sorum would have no meaningful involvement in the run. Tracks such as ‘Read Between The Lines’ prove that he has the ability to flit seamlessly from a hard rock verse to stadium rock bridge via a punk rock chorus, playing with taste, feel and power throughout.
It’s another solid outing from Slash, Myles, Fitz and co; a record that should more than satisfy those aforementioned GN’R fans waiting for Axl to get back into the studio.( RC) Download: ‘ServeYouRight’ Goto: www.slashonline.com
