Rhythm - - WELCOME! - Stuart Williams, Editor stuart.wil[email protected]turenet.com

Have you ever found yourself in a musical situation where you felt out of your comfort zone? It’s a worrying position to be put in, particularly if you’re performing in front of people – and even if you’ve been playing for years, it’s certainly something that can come from out of nowhere. This month we’re taking a look at how to play the core grooves for a number of styles outside of basic rock music.

From simple jazz paterns to New Orleans-style grooves and disco beats, the idea is that our lessons will give you a grounding in multiple styles that you might have shied away from, or just never found yourself needing to play. With these under your belt, you’ll be equipped with the beats you need in order to sound authentic in most musical situations that are likely to come up on a gig.

Also this month, we take a look at how to play The Police’s ‘Can’t Stand Losing You’ – and to celebrate the reissue of Metallica’s seminal …AndJustice ForAll album, we’re showing you how to tackle one of Lars Ulrich’s most recognisable drum tracks, ‘One’.

We catch up with Gregg Bissonette and Jimmy Chamberlin, and take a look around Mike Portnoy’s mammoth Sons Of Apollo kit, and there’s the usual collection of the best new drum gear on the market.See you next month – when we’ll be sitting down with Mr Stewart Copeland!
