Charles Lyell (1797-1875) of Scotland is considered the Charles Darwin of geology, as he too revolution­ized natural sciences with a set of books. In his three volume work The Principles of Geology, Charles Lyell explained, how Earth’s surface has slowly changed its appearance over time rather than as a result of sudden, violent events.
