A 52-m-year-old an­kle bone makes sci­en­tists re­con­sider the adroit­ness of our first an­ces­tors. Un­til now, they be­lieved that the first pri­mates were climb­ing calmly along the tree branches, but analy­ses of the re­cently found bone shows that the first pri­mates prob­a­bly jumped be­tween trunks and branches.
