The "bac­u­lum", or pe­nis bone found in many mam­mals, pro­longs in­ter­course and in­creases the chance of fer­til­i­sa­tion. Hu­mans lost this trait, in­stead us­ing monogamy and faster, more fre­quent mat­ing as our main re­pro­duc­tive strat­egy.
