Colour photos re­veal hid­den neu­tron star

200,000 years ago, a star died in our neigh­bour­ing galaxy, the Small Mag­el­lanic Cloud, in an ex­plo­sion that left a spec­tac­u­lar light show in many wave­lengths. Astronomers have com­bined images from sev­eral tele­scopes, al­low­ing them to see the gases and the com­pact neu­tron star at the cen­tre.
