Satellite tries to hit a target in space

Science Illustrated - - SPACE JUNK -

2 RemoveDEBRIS’ second test is about firing a harpoon at a 10 x 10 cm plate from a distance of 1.5 m. The plate is designed to look like the aluminium panels surrounding the electronics of most satellites. The small harpoon includes four barbs, which attach themselves to the plate. The harpoon is a smaller version of a full-size model, which is being tested by Airbus. The large harpoon is forceful enough to penetrate 3- cm-thick aluminium plates and must be able to hit targets from a distance of up to 25 m.
