ROMAN LEAD KEEPS OUT RADIATION

To avoid invasive particles, the detector has a lead shield. Some comes from lead ingots found in Roman ships in the Mediterranean. Almost all the radioactive lead has decayed after all the years on the sea floor, so the lead does not interrupt the measurement.
