With a history spanning 22 years, the

Asia Dive Expo (ADEX) is the biggest and longest-running dive expo in Asia, becoming one of the most popular events in the industry. Since its handover to Underwater360 (UW360), ADEX has seen significant expansion in size and variety over the past eight years.

ADEX brings together distinguished VIPs and speakers from across the globe, some of which include scientists, marine conservationists, underwater photographers and videographers. ADEX is also a platform for various businesses such as dive operators, equipment manufacturers, and national tourism boards to gather support.

Previously, each show has been dedicated to an iconic marine species, with activities designed to heighten conservation awareness. This year, ADEX 2017 mixed things up a bit. The pressing threat of rising sea levels and the drastic effect of human carelessness on the oceans and marine life prompted this year’s event to be dedicated to climate change.

The diving and water-sports communities are the ambassadors of our oceans – they see the damage that has been done firsthand. As such, the event featured numerous talks by individuals from these communities, with the purpose of raising awareness about how we can help make a change.

BEIJING OCEAN WEEK 2017

From 31 August to 3 September

2017, ADEX Beijing was held at the China International Exhibition Center (Jing’An Museum) Hall 5, successfully co-organised with Shenteng (Beijing) Science and Technology Trade Co.

Ltd. The China International Exhibition Centre (Jing’An Museum) is one of China’s first exhibition centres, and ranked among the “Top 10 Buildings” in Beijing in the 1980s. In 1985, it hosted the first “Asia-Pacific Expo”, which preluded China’s modern exhibition industry boom. The exhibition centre houses eight pavilions, each boasting an indoor area of 53,000 square metres and an outdoor area of 7,000 square metres. With over 30 years of development, it annually hosts more than 100 small and mediumsized exhibitions with its impressive measurement of over one million square metres. With the highest occupancy rate amongst exhibition venues, the China International Exhibition Centre has been welcomed by both foreign and domestic exhibitors, making it a fitting location to host the dive industry’s biggest expo in Asia.

ADEX Beijing was held in conjunction with Beijing Ocean Week, a series of festival celebrations with an educational focus on conservation and diving that attracted tek divers, freedivers, speakers and mermaids. It was also supported by the Pacific Society of China. In addition, the ADEX Voice Of

The Ocean Competition 2017 was held during Ocean Week, with live judging of underwater photos, videos and art by a panel of world-renowned judges.

The event attracted both diving enthusiasts and organisations in the diving industry from all around the region, with a total of 22,856 visitors over four days.

IMAGE/BOOK FESTIVAL

The Image/Book Festival featured an impressive list of inspirational speakers, and drew record numbers to the event. As in previous years, the presentations proved to be very popular as the seats filled up quickly. After the presentations, the speakers were often swarmed by enthusiastic fans for a meet and greet opportunity.

PRESENTING 360 (FILM FESTIVAL)

The Presenting 360 Film Festival allowed attendees to take a break from the expo’s other attractions by watching an educational movie. A series of topical environmental productions were screened, in line with the event’s overall mission to promote love and respect for our oceans and its creatures.
