CENINGAN DIVERS
Ceningan Divers is an eco-resort known for its policy of having zero plastic products on site.
They have successfully boycotted the use of single-use plastic products such as travel-sized toiletries, water bottles, and straws. The resort has committed to significant measures to cut down its water use, such as installing low-flow shower heads, dual flush toilets, and using well water when possible. The staff at Ceningan Divers are trained in conservation, recycling, and composting. Other eco-friendly measures include added grey water systems, recycling bins, a composting area, and the use of non-chemical products.
In 2017, the resort co-founded Ceningan Eco Trust, their community outreach arm for local initiatives and programmes. Through consultations and engagement with the community, Ceningan Divers successfully created a recycling programme on the island. Thanks to this, the resort’s employees, their families and the village have access to unwanted second-hand furniture and reusable materials from the resort.
The resort also works with the Lembongan Marine Association and the Nusa Penida Marine Protected Area to take part in beach cleanups, marine debris dives and other local programmes and initiatives.
All dive guests are encouraged to go over local regulations, and are made aware of the environmental practices in the resort, in its dive operations, as well as in the Nusa Penida Marine Protected Area where it operates.
