Since 1959, the Chi­nese Un­der­wa­ter As­so­ci­a­tion (CUA) has been or­gan­is­ing and pro­mot­ing div­ing through­out the coun­try. It is a na­tion-wide sports and so­cial or­gan­i­sa­tion, as well as a group mem­ber of the All-China Sports Fed­er­a­tion and the high­est mass or­gan­i­sa­tion of scuba div­ing in China. CUA is also China’s sole rep­re­sen­ta­tive in the International Div­ing Or­ga­ni­za­tion. CUA was formed by the ini­tia­tive of China’s div­ing in­dus­try, in­clud­ing dive as­so­ci­a­tions, com­pa­nies, div­ing schools, and ath­letes who are dive en­thu­si­asts. The as­so­ci­a­tion is a non-profit so­cial or­gan­i­sa­tion un­der the ju­ris­dic­tion of the State Gen­eral Ad­min­is­tra­tion of Sports.
