Young artist wins prize

Seymour Telegraph - - NEWS - John Paul Macalino won College.

Each year, HiArts (Highlands Arts Experience) offers a cash prize to the best senior art student at Seymour College and Yea Secondary School.

The aim is to encourage gifted students to continue their art interest into adulthood.

In 2017, John Paul Macalino won the prize at Seymour College while still in Year 11, and he has been inspired by the challenge of realism in his own work and in that of other artists.

He said he especially admired artists such as Salvador Dali, Sam Jinks, Jane Tanner, Maurits Escher and Michelangelo, and prefers drawing with pencils to develop his portraits and figures.

Megan Westwood was Yea’s winner.

The prizes for 2018 will be announced by the end of the school year.
