Council growth policy

Seymour Telegraph - - YOUR LOCAL DINING GUIDE -

Mitchell Shire Council adopted a revised Community Engagement Framework last week, strengthening its commitment to consultation with the community.

Council says the revised framework, originally adopted in 2014, will continue the municipality’s open community engagement approaches.

The framework outlines principles, methods and tools for consultation and engagement.

It encourages staff to seek a wide range of views with a focus on plain English in our communications, and more consistent engagement planning and evaluation.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Bill Chisholm said the framework would play a key role in furthering the community spirit in the municipality.

‘‘This process is an important step for our shire as we continue to grow and as our community changes,’’ he said.

‘‘Over the past few years, we’ve tried a number of new approaches to engaging with our community which have proven successful.

‘‘When we are consulting with the residents of Mitchell Shire, we want to make sure everybody who wants, and needs, to be involved has the opportunity to take part.

‘‘We are an interface growth area, with a mix of rural and urban living with affording housing and a diversity of lifestyle and housing choices. There are many diverse views to consider when we make decisions, and this framework will help us to do this in an engaged and transparent way.’’
