Fundraiser for Vic and melanoma research
A fundraiser targeting $5000 in support of Seymour’s Vic Alfieri and the Melanoma Institute of Australia will be held at the Royal Hotel on February 9.
Organiser Jade Rankin said statistics show melanoma is the most common cancer in young Australians (15–39 year olds).
She said it represented 20 per cent of all their cancer cases.
‘‘As you may or may not be aware, our great mate Vic Alfieri, who most of the local community would know from his most recent position at Woolworths in Seymour, has been fighting his melanoma for more than four years,’’ Ms Rankin said.
‘‘Unfortunately this horrible disease has continued spreading throughout his body,’’ she said.
‘‘So in the positive spirit Vic has always had, we have put together a great afternoon to host this event for shave your head or colour your hair.
‘‘With 100 per cent of funds raised going direct to the Melanoma Institute of Australia.
‘‘Come and join us on Saturday, February 9 from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Royal Hotel in Seymour.’’
Ms Rankin said there would be musical entertainment, raffles and entertainment for children.
She said Liv and Erin will be the hairdressers for the day and they ‘‘have their shavers ready to go for anyone who is game enough’’.
‘‘Let’s all rally together to get as many people as we possibly can to commit to either the head shave or hair colour, and smash the target of $5000 out of this world,’’ Ms Rankin said.
‘‘Even if you can’t commit to a shave or colour, come down and support this incredibly important cause, and still have fun, we can’t wait to see you all there.’’ ■ For more information email Jade at givingupisnotanop[email protected] or donate at melanomainstituteau2016.gofundraise.com.au/page/GivingUpIsNotAnOption
