Teen’s city salute

- By Rodney Woods

Harness racing rider Nicholas Brown has recorded his first metro race win in South Australia, nearly a year after his first ever win in the sport.

Brown, who is the son of wellknown Seymour harness racing couple Terry and Peta Brown, drove his first winner at Globe Derby on July 20, 2020, saluting on 125-1 pop Grinagain.

This time around he rode Lord Chancellor, which is trained by Peta and owned by South Australian Josh Harley, to victory in the Trotters Mobile 1800 m race held at Globe Derby on May 29.

Brown, 17, said it was a joyful feeling post the race.

‘‘I’m happy with the new owner and the horse and it was good feeling but a bit of a shock as well,’’ he said.

While he admitted he would have liked to cross the finish line first more than he has, Brown said any win was a good one.

‘‘I would have liked a couple more but that's not how it's worked out,’’ he said.

‘‘That’s why it does give you a confidence boost when things go your way.’’

Brown’s progression in the sport was just about inevitable with his mum a long-time horse trainer and dad a rider as well.
