Candidate backs rates review call
Liberal candidate for the seat of Euroa in November’s state election Brad Hearn has joined calls for a fairer local government rates system.
Mr Hearn said Local Government Shadow Minister Richard Riordan and the Victorian Farmers Federation had called for a review of the current rates system.
He has backed Mr Riordan’s claims the current system is unsustainable and unfair for Victorians.
“The system is ready and
long overdue for a comprehensive review of rural rates,” Mr Hearn said.
“Once again there is a country and city divide and it is time that we correct the city focus of the state government and remind them that the regions matter.
“Fairness is important and those living outside of Melbourne need to see more of it.”
Mr Hearn said a fairer system would have a positive impact on Victorians’ household budgets.
“A comprehensive review into rating tax will achieve this for all Victorians and work towards equality in state taxation,” he said.
