Last Wednesday, not only had the course had a chance to dry out a bit, but it was also a pleasant day for golf, so all competitions were played.

The women had a stableford round and the winner was Dale Stuart (16) with 34 points. The extra competition was the best even holes score and that also went to Stuart with 18 points. The ball pool went to Stuart and Liz Gee with 30 points.

In the men’s competition, Ian Richardson (7) had the best score of the day to win A-grade with a very nice 38 points. The B-grade winner was Gary Neville (21) with 33 points.

Only the nearest-the-pin on the sixth and 12th were claimed and those went to Dave Hamilton and Dave Pearce respectively. The ball pool included Richardson, John Boruch, Neville, Greg Pell, Neville Roulston and John Callaghan with 32 points.

The mixed nine-hole competition was won by Stubby Byrne (23) with 14 points.

The social six holes this Friday is listed as par over holes one to six. On Saturday, the competition is par for the men and stableford for the women.

Nagambie

Saturday golf was scheduled but was cancelled due to low numbers and heavy ground conditions, so no results for the week.

Nagambie Golf Club would like to invite all golfers from around the district to next week's Goulburn Cup, the oldest and longest running open honour board event on the club schedule.

The event is a four-ball best ball versus par for men and a four-ball best ball versus stableford for the women. Assembly is 9.30am for a 10am hit-off.

Entries can be forwarded to club captains David on 0419 672 442 or Ronda on 0408 349 505.

Chicken run results Thursday, September 8

There were no players brave enough to play in the wet conditions.

We would also like to acknowledge that long-standing club member Ronda Richards received her Order of Australia award on Thursday, September 8. Congratulations Ronda.

Avenel

Saturday was the last round of the club championships and despite 32mm of rain over Thursday and Friday, the course was in great condition. As always, a massive thank you to our volunteers for their tireless efforts to make it so.

At the start of the round, Jared Smith had a one-shot lead over Stevie Donovan and he maintained that lead at the turn.

They were all square after 13 holes, but then Scoota knocked one in from off the green on 14 to take the overall lead for the first time.

They both birdied the 15th, but disaster struck for Jed when he double-bogied the 16th. It seemed the nerves were coming in to play with both players bogeying the 17th. Although Scoota also bogeyed the 18th, he had the score under the belt to claim back-to-back championships.

The B-grade Bern Stevens trophy was looking really close, with Matt Eddy and Dale and Alex Smith in hot pursuit of Shane Black, who was unable to play on the day. The chasers each had 42 on the front and it looked like any of the three could be scribing their name on the Bernard Stevens trophy.

However, the back nine proved the undoing for all three and Black’s posted score was enough to give him the B-grade title.

Hudson Black had a huge lead in C-grade and was able to hold on to that quite comfortably and in so doing claimed the junior club champion trophy as well.

Congratulations to the 2022 club champions — Stephen Donovan, Shane Black and Hudson Black.

The gold medal (medal of medallists) was contested as well with Tim Batten, Matt Eddy, Hudson Black and Jed Smith vying for the prize. Jed’s 73 nett got him over the line to claim the gold medal for consecutive years.

Drive-and-pitch on the seventh went to Scoota and that was the only one for the day.

On Sunday, 13 players headed to Murchison to play in the re-launched Dargalong and Murchison Cup events. Despite being a bit wet, the course was very well presented and congratulations go to their hard-working volunteers.

Avenel managed to clean up the trophies with the men’s competition, the Dargalong Cup, being won by Alex and Lindsay Smith with +7 and the women’s competition, the Murchison Cup, won by Lyn Carracher, who partnered with Euroa’s Michelle Thomson, but we still call her our own.

Well done to everyone who represented the club.

This Thursday, the women are hosting the Mabel Vearing Silver Salver and are looking for donations of cakes/slices please.

Saturday morning sees the first round of the sub-junior championships take place, so the club is hoping for a good roll-up of juniors for that, while the seniors will be playing a stableford round. Hopefully the weather holds.

Finally, committee members are reminded of the meeting tonight at the usual time and place.

In the meantime, good golfing to everyone.
