ADF holds Friday football

- By Bianca Hall

The Australian Defence Force held an AFL match at Kings Park in Seymour on Friday, September 16.

Despite the competition, it was a day for personnel to let their hair down and engage with the local community.

The School of Artillery and School of Armour faced off while onlookers enjoyed a sausage sizzle and a few cold ones thanks to the Lions Club of Seymour Goulburn and Seymour Football Netball Club, which opened the canteen.

Army Aussie Rules Football Association president Major-General Andrew Hopkin travelled from Canberra for the occasion.

He said the game complemented military life, helping the soldiers develop leadership and resilience on and off the field.

Despite involvement in local sporting clubs dropping off over the past few years due to external demands and pressures, MajorGeneral Hopkin said he hoped the match marked the revival of local footy for defence force personnel.
