Mission: Adoptable

- By Bianca Hall atgap.grv.org.au/

The Greyhound Adoption Program joined forces with several animal shelters across Victoria to re-home as many dogs as possible as part of Mission: Adoptable, which ran from October 1 to 9.

The GAP is the most well known of Greyhound Racing Victoria’s (GRV) initiatives aimed at finding loving family homes for greyhounds who have retired from the racetrack.

Greyhounds can make great family pets and are renowned for their gentle nature and couch potato tendencies, despite their athletic abilities of reaching speeds of 64km/h.

The drive aimed to find new homes for 50 greyhounds.

However, Andrew Holmes from GRV said the drive exceeded expectations.

“We adopted out 70 greyhounds for the week, which was a really strong result,” he said.

Adoption fees were slashed to $50 and every dog adopted also came with a free 4kg bag of Royal Canin dog food.

While Mission: Adoptable has ended, there are plenty of pups who need a new home.
