Treated wastewater released

- By Bianca Hall

Goulburn Valley Water has started releasing fully treated wastewater at nine sites across the region as a result of heavy rainfall which has seen storage lagoons reach capacity.

Releases will occur as required into Seymour’s Back Creek, Kilmore Creek, Lake Eildon at Bonnie Doon, Sunday Creek at Broadford and Castle Creek at Euroa, among others.

The releases began in late September and are between 0.2ML and 4ML a day depending on each waterway.

GVW’s wastewater and recycling co-ordinator Stuart Harris said discharging excess fully treated wastewater from storages helped reduce any potential for uncontrolled overflows and helped protect infrastructure.

“Releases will continue until climatic conditions improve and irrigation can begin at the facilities,” Mr Harris said.
