Hundreds moved in record floods

- By Bianca Hall

Seymour SES evacuated hundreds of people from the evacuation zone in the town’s north last week.

The evacuation order was placed for most areas north of the train line, from High St through to Butler, Tristan and Tallarook streets, on Thursday night.

The incident control centre in Shepparton oversaw operations.

Seymour SES controller Christine Welsh received word about 8.15pm that first responders needed to head out and evacuate residents by 10pm.

At 8.30pm, the Goulburn River at Seymour was sitting at 7.8m with more water on the way. Seymour’s previous highest flood on record was 7.64m, set in 1974.
