Paul Warren started Wallan Mitchell Security Doors around five years ago after recognising a gap in the market with new properties in Kilmore, Beverage, Broadford, Wallan. The business is expanding; all the way from Craigieburn up to Seymour and interest from customers in Seymour increasing.
The business has grown by 25% every year for the last five years, particularly through word of mouth. Despite this, Paul is keen to keep the business small and personal. He wants to focus on quality that’s reliable, quick and efficient.
The family business is run jointly by Paul and his daughter. He does the quoting and installing whilst she builds all the doors, flyscreens and window grills from the workshop. His other daughter is soon coming on board to specialize in flyscreens. His sons have now gone out on their own in related businesses.
“She’s excellent at what she does… I’m just glad to help my family along” he says.
Running the business from the family property brings big benefits to Paul’s customers. Keeping his overheads down lets Paul deliver these saving to his customer. Despite the rising cost of aluminium, he keeps prices down by purchasing stock in bulk.
Expanding his range has bought big benefits. This expansion is what allows for Pauls quick turnaround time. From measure and quote to installation only takes two weeks, compared to competitors four to six weeks because of the stock he now keeps on hand.
“Because we build them, we can pull them apart, fix it and put it back together again.” Customers don’t experience delays of a company that has to send parts back to the factory and wait for their return.
Above anything, Paul prides himself on finishing the job properly with attention to detail. He offers a three-year warranty on his workmanship.
