Edinburgh’s going geek, Steven Ellis reports

New sci- fi and fantasy events are popping up all over the country and it’s no different north of the border where Edinburgh Comic Con returns for a second year after a well- received first outing. The organisers, Hero Conventions, have managed to get a selection of eclectic guests from across the world including American writer and artist Ryan Browne ( the man behind cult favourite God Hates Astronauts), long- time Star Wars: The Clone Wars artist Tanya Roberts, My Little Pony and Powerpuff Girls artist Agnes Garbowska and Judge Dredd Megazine writer Jim Alexander. Also appearing at the event are two rising stars at Marvel Comics – Gerardo Sandoval, famed for his work on Spider- Man, Wolverine, X- Men and Captain Marvel; and Avengers artist Jim Cheung. The list goes on and on and is incredibly varied.

The Edinburgh Con will feature several guests from genre TV including Neve McIntosh ( Doctor Who’s Madame Vastra), along with other Who faces such as Frazer Hines ( Jamie) and Caitlin Blackwood ( young Amy Pond). Pixie Le Knot and Josephine Gillan will be there to represent Game Of Thrones while Simon Williamson, the puppeteer who played Max Rebo in Return Of The Jedi, will also be in attendance.

As you might expect there’ll be panels featuring talks and interviews with guests, a dealer room packed with goodies to buy and prop displays from sci- fi and fantasy productions. There will also be opportunities for signings and meetings with the guests, and the Sunday will feature a cosplay competition open to anyone who fancies dressing up.
