The Fighting Fantasy series, returns with a new book and a digital card game

-

Preparing to celebrate their 35th anniversary with the second Fighting Fantasy Fest in September, the roleplaying game’s creators Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson will mark the occasion with their first digital card game and a new book.

Penned by Livingstone, The Port Of Peril revisits classic locations such as Darkwood Forest and Port Blacksand and also features several familiar faces. “You will get to meet Gereth Yaztromo again,” reveals Livingstone, referring to the famous wizard. “Hopefully it’ll be a great voyage down memory lane. I’m not trying to make it too predictable. It starts out as a treasure quest, which you soon realise is just a red herring as there’s a new dark threat that’s about to hit Allansia that you need to stop.”

Drawing on the seminal trio of The Warlock Of Firetop Mountain, Citadel Of Chaos and City Of Thieves, Nomad Games’s Fighting Fantasy Legends explores similar geographical territory to The Port Of Peril. “They’re all spread out over this particular part of Allansia, which gave us a nice map that we could use to connect them,” says Nomad Games designer Carl Jackson. “As well as amazing monsters, each book has a different feel to it with a dungeon crawl, a tower climb and a city setting.”

While there are no direct links, The Port Of Peril and Fighting Fantasy Legends are set in the same corner of Livingstone and Jackson’s fictional realm. “Those who read The Port Of Peril will get to meet the same characters and go to the same sort of places as in Fighting Fantasy Legends,” says Jackson. “That’s what a true fan would expect. They don’t want to see completely different environments to what they remember from past adventures.”

Fighting Fantasy Legends is released by Nomad Games on 17 July. The Port of Peril is published by Scholastic on 3 August. fightingfantasy.com
