Star Trek Adventures prepares to boldly go where no table-top RPG has gone before!
“Growing up watching Captain Kirk and then Picard and the crew, it was always a dream to do something with Star Trek,” says Chris Birch, publishing director at Modiphius Entertainment, whose dream is now realised with the new table-top RPG Star Trek Adventures. “We didn’t want to do the same old thing,” says Birch, mindful of previous Trek RPGs. “We didn’t want another book that went, ‘Hey cadets, this is what Starfleet is.’ It’s set in a specific date, just before the Dominion War. You can play any time period you want but there’s a very specific point where we think it’s the most exciting time to play in the Star Trek story.”
Developed with writers Dayton Ward, author of 20-plus Trek novels, and Scott Pearson, Star Trek Adventures introduces players to the Shackleton Expanse, a hitherto unexplored corner of the universe and home to Starbase 364, Narendra Station. Players can choose between eight races for their characters – Andorians, Bajorans, Betazoids, Denobulans, Humans, Tellarites, Trill and Vulcans – while antagonistic species will include Romulans, Cardassians, the Borg and the Dominion. In addition to the scenarios included in the main books, players can expand the game’s universe as their hearts desire. “We’ve got books for the Alpha Quadrant, Beta Quadrant,” says Birch. “You get to create other non-Starfleet races in those books. The Command book gives you more ships, the Operations book will give you more gear, more ways of having interesting engineering or security adventures. And the Sciences book gives you all the super science for entities like Q, time travel, all the bizarre stuff. We even have a Klingon book coming so you’ll be able to play a whole campaign as a ship full of Klingons going around the galaxy shooting stuff and doing what they want for honour.”
