the second half of the book has a sea voyage that ends in the new world
Voyager, the third book in diana Gabaldon’s timetravelling outlander series, is the basis for the latest season of the global tV hit. As executive producer ronald d Moore tells SFX, this season embraces more repercussions for Claire’s ability to time travel. And despite it being the largest book to date, they managed to adapt the narrative of Jamie and Claire Fraser’s 20-year separation into just 13 episodes. “it’s like the biggest of the books, so you automatically feel like maybe this is too much material for one season,” he admits. “but once we put the cards up on the board you quickly saw there’s five episodes right here just in the Jamie story, and then the reunion of the two characters. it felt like it was enough time to build a desire in the audience to get Claire and Jamie back together so that they were really getting excited, but it wasn’t dragging it out too long. And it’s also two decades of these two people’s lives. to do that justice, you had to give it some time and some space. From there, you’re almost halfway through the season. And then you look at the second half of the book, with the sea voyage and the story in Jamaica and then ending up in the New World… when you really boiled it down to what the story was and the character relationships, we realised we could tell this in just one season. i don’t think we were really tempted to try to stretch it beyond that.”
