supergirl The Girl of Steel combats a new foe – grief
SEASON 3 US BROADCAST: The CW from 9 October UK BROADCAST: Sky 1 TBC
THE maid Of migHt HaS SEEN happier days.
“Where we left off in the season two finale,” says supergirl executive producer Jessica Queller, “we saw kara having to make a very painful hero’s choice to save the Earth and send the love of her life off into space. that was devastating. So when we pick up season three we’re going to start from that emotional place of kara reeling from the loss, and we’re going to examine the question of, ‘What does it mean to be human?’ is there space – when you have to be a hero and save the world – to be heartbroken and grieving and all those things? at the beginning of this year she’s going to throw herself into her work and put kara danvers to the side.”
Rest assured, the show and its heroine won’t be dragged down into a pit of angst.
“We try and strike a balance,” explains executive producer Robert Rovner. “Even though she’s in a darker place emotionally, there’s still the humour, which is true to life. So we try and have fun. it definitely won’t be a downer.”
Contributing to the lighter side will be a return visit from Calista flockhart’s tart-tongued Cat grant in the season premiere. meanwhile, extra drama arrives in the form of J’onn J’onzz’s father, played by Carl lumbly (who voiced the martian manhunter in tV’s animated Justice
League and Justice League unlimited), and the season’s big bad, Reign, played by
Cloverfield star Odette annable.
