After a debut season that saw the supernatural netflix series become an overnight sensation and eggos enter the global lexicon, Stranger Things is returning with a nine-episode follow-up that will delve deeper into the upside down. for starters, poor Will byers is still feeling the after-effects of his extended stay in Stranger
Things’ shadowy alt-universe. “Compared to last season, Will shows more bravery,” says actor noah schnapp, who’s been promoted to a series regular this year. “You’ll definitely learn how the upside down affected Will.” His visions of a towering, tentacled eldritch abomination can’t be helping either…
another character affected by his brief trip to the upside down is heroic sheriff Jim Hopper. “It’s a year later, you can’t do the same thing, you can’t wake up again,” david Harbour explains. “so one of the really interesting, subtle things about the arc in season two is there is a psychology about heroic action where someone does something heroic and whether or not they can live up to that.”
new for season two are several major characters, including sadie sink’s transfer student “Mad” Max (the first episode is named after her), dacre Montgomery’s human antagonist billy, Joyce’s new boyfriend bob (played by The Goonies’ sean astin) and dr owens (Aliens’ Paul reiser), who’s sent in by the government to clean up dr brenner’s mess at Hawkins lab. but the big mystery to be addressed, of course, is the whereabouts of eleven. the trailer shows the telekinetic teen discovering a gateway to another world in the upside down, but can she be certain it’s ours? anything’s possible when you’re strange.
