Gotham’s citizens were saved from the deadly virus by an antidote, while young master Wayne was finally encouraged by alfred to embrace his vigilante mission. Jim Gordon actor ben McKenzie teases that in season four, “We are certainly leaning into getting ever closer to bruce’s ultimate persona. In this particular instance, bruce is starting down his vigilante role but he’s still learning it. Jim is oblivious to that initially, but they will come into contact a lot this year, which serves to bring us back to the foundation of the show, which is their relationship from the pilot, and mark our progress.”
Meanwhile, having accrued such a large ensemble cast, McKenzie says from the top, “there’s an awful lot going on [in this season]. We ended season three seemingly dispatching some of our villains, but some will come back. season four opens up a few months later and into this void of villainy, Penguin (robin Lord taylor) has asserted himself and created this system where he’s licensing crimes. He’s basically usurped the law completely and he controls what crime is permitted in Gotham.” and how about the rivalry between Jim Gordon and Penguin? “Jim and the Penguin are very much at loggerheads. Jim is really one of the few threats out there to Penguin, but Jim’s been beat down so much, I’m not sure how seriously he takes him. so against that tide, Jim is left alone. no one is on his side, including Harvey. that will lead him to find new allies and that includes sofia falcone (Crystal reed).”
