Rather than debating which of James Cameron’s Terminator movies is the best, let’s just accept they’re both bona fide classics, and try to forget the movies that have come since.
Cameron recaptures the Aliens sequel magic by seamlessly expanding his universe, while showing us something we’d never seen before – the T-1000’s groundbreaking shapeshifting CG still stands up 26 years on. And because nobody marshals an action scene quite like Cameron, you barely even notice Arnie’s cheesier moments of robo-comedy. Spruced up for this year’s 3D theatrical re-release, you can now enjoy it in crystal clarity.
Extras Most of the Blu-ray extras are from previous releases: two commentaries, a 30-minute Making Of from 2003, deleted scenes (with commentary), three cuts of the movie, and two trailers. The only significant newcomer (all formats) is “T2: Reprogramming The Terminator” (55 minutes), a retrospective featuring most of the major players (with the exception of Linda Hamilton) which looks at the set-pieces, special effects and even the music with the benefit of a quarter century’s hindsight. It’s a cracking documentary, with plenty of great behind-thescenes footage. Richard Edwards
