the other Apes tv show...
When Return To The Planet Of The Apes from DePatieFreleng enterprises started airing on NBC in 1975, the absence of Roddy McDowall’s voice contributed to the ersatz air that traditionally surrounds Saturday-morning animated children’s tV shows. yet its backgrounds were lush, it was socially progressive (its astronaut trio was comprised of a white man, a black man and a white woman), its scripts were merrily post-modern and there was inter-episode development. Intriguingly it opted to depict the apes living not in primitive conditions but the gleaming cites envisioned way back when by Pierre Boulle. Its 13 half-hour episodes constitute an interesting, lateral addition to the Apes canon.
