Rollin decided he wanted to make films at the age of four, after seeing Abel Gance’s adventure film Capitaine Fracasse (1942).

French paper Le Figaro wasn’t impressed by Rollin’s debut, suggesting it was made by a bunch of drunks who’d escaped from an asylum.

Filming Lips Of Blood (1976), Rollin was knocked out trying to stop a coffin floating out to sea! The lead actor had to rescue him.

Rollin was undergoing dialysis when he made 1997’s Two Orphan Vampires. One day he was so sick he directed lying on a stretcher!
