It’s a big year for the X-verse, what with Deadpool 2 (out 1 June) and X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2 November) both hurtling our way. Weirdest and most enticing by far, though, is The New Mutants, the first entry in the franchise to go all-out horror. “I think of the mainline X-Men movies more as grand operative science-fiction films,” says director Josh Boone. “This is much more of a performance-driven horror film.” It stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams and Charlie Heaton as mutants attempting to break out of a secret facility. If that trailer’s anything to go by, we’re in for a heck of a ride.
