Think of it as an inkier version of the Vulcan mind-meld.

Andrew Gorton, Facebook Solid SF fare – though the distant planet looks like Canada. I found myself half-hoping they had crashed in Canada, and the Robot was some kind of intergalactic Jeremy Beadle!

Jason Aquino, GamesRadar+ It all looks great – not cheesy or cheap. The Robot looks awesome, and they really put a lot of work into those sets – so much detail.

Ouinston, Twitter It gradually turned into a rollercoaster of catastrophic mishaps that somehow everyone survived unscathed. By the end the Robinsons had survived more mortal dangers than in three seasons back in the ’60s. Simply ridiculous!

John Hobart, Facebook I’d like to see an entire episode where nothing goes wrong for the poor Robinsons. It probably doesn’t make for good drama, but they need a break!

George Hagi, Facebook Excellent show, but the Netflix format lets it down. You really need a week to absorb the action and story, but with Netflix: bang, here we go again.

Rob Morganbesser, email Utter trash. How come one daughter is black without explanation? And how is she a doctor at 18? And who designed the Jupiter 2 – a blind man? So generic it’s ridiculous. The only thing this has in common with the original is the name and terrible science.

Thomas Kane, Facebook Overall I enjoyed it, apart from the jumps back in time don’t explain the backstory much, or answer why only the select few are leaving Earth. Didn’t get why Judy was mixed race – it didn’t explain it. Hopefully the next season will be as good and fill in the gaps. SFX Both these things seem obvious to me: Judy is John’s stepdaughter and if you’re establishing a new colony, you pick stable people with useful skills.

Ron Bell, Facebook Loved the idea that Mum is in charge rather than John.

Pete Gillespie, Twitter As the father of a nearly-teenage daughter, I think it’s a brilliant show. So many choices for interesting, clever, funny female characters. I’m hoping it stays family-friendly – there’s enough grit on Netflix.

Riyad Emeran, Twitter My daughters, aged nine and 12, were mesmerised by the first episode, literally holding their breath.

Kjell Dahl, email Might work for seven- to 10-year-old kids. I found it an insult to the few brain cells that I’ve still got.

It turns into a rollercoaster of catastrophic mishaps

Steve Case, email I’ve worked with teenagers for 30 years, and can tell writers who’ve never spent much time with one. The plot device of having a teenager walk away when the parent says “stay put!” is as worn as having the busty blonde trip while running from the monster. Some of the writing in that area needs work.

Midori Oshii, GamesRadar+ The Robot was the most impressive aspect. It ripped out by the roots the cheesy robot pal of the original series, and created a new twist on its existence.

medwards200, email The one fly in the ointment is Parker Posey – sadly not to the high standards Jonathan Harris set. She lacks menace, cunning and, dare I say it, “Danger, Will Robinson”.

Sonofkrypton, GamesRadar+ I thought the characters were believable and honest – Penny’s wiseass nature brought forth a few laughs!

Briar Lee Mitchell, Facebook The characters need to be developed more – except for Penny, she’s spot-on. SFX Penny was the standout character for me too – a real show-stealer.

Greytuol, GamesRadar+ Sci-fi nowadays is generally dystopian, violent and steeped in serious issues. I believe this is the sci-fi series mainstream audiences need in a world that embraces dark and broody. My one gripe: it wasn’t really a case of Lost In Space but Lost On A Planet Far, Far Away.

Mark Askren, email I appreciated the little nods to the original theme, and the opening credits, which reminded me of Enterprise. I was glad the show removed the campiness and the velour. I hope Will gets another robot.

Jonathan Harvey, Twitter It needs more aliens and alien environments – could do with some planet-hopping to add variety.

Gary Alcock, Facebook Episodes one and two: interminably slow. Episodes three-seven: a mixed bag. Some good, some average, a lot of filler. Episodes eight-10: now that’s more like it. It rocketed along and finally felt like the show I’d been hoping for. SFX Spot-on, Gary. After four episodes, I felt it was mediocre. By the very end, I was hooked.
